Meet the Founder

Ms. Evelyn English, M.Ed

Evelyn English, M.Ed., earned her Master of Education from National Louis University in Evanston, Illinois. She is a Family Engagement Specialist, Certified Reading Specialist, early childhood education author, and host of the Brainy Acts: Literacy Blooms podcast.

Ms. English is the author of Reading is Thinking: Dynamic Tools for Literacy and Language Development, Brainy Acts: Build Your Child’s Brain for Success, and Science of Reading in Action: Simple Daily Strategies to Build Strong Readers. Her books are published in both English and Spanish, expanding access to families, educators, caregivers, and advocates who are committed to strengthening early literacy, language development, and learning success for all children.

 

The Early Childhood Family Engagement Framework

Ms. English has collaborated with the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) to develop and implement equity education initiatives. She was selected by MSDE to co-author The Early Childhood Family Engagement Framework: Maryland’s Vision for Engaging Families with Young Children. Her professional experience includes teaching thinking, reading, writing, listening, and speaking strategies to learners from PreK through college across the United States and Europe.

A longtime advocate for family engagement and inclusive education, Ms. English has served on local, state, and national boards of education. She is also a founding member of the National Association for Family, School, and Community Engagement (NAFSCE).

Ms. English believes that all students are able and that engagement is essential to learning. Her commitment to high-quality education includes the explicit teaching of research-supported thinking processes, literacy strategies, and language development techniques. She believes that when parents, multigenerational families, educators, and advocates work together using the right resources and joyful, diverse experiences, they can promote proficiency, confidence, and success for all learners.
